JAS KANDOLA
(Screenwriter)
Jas Kandola is a British-Punjabi writer and filmmaker from Birmingham, England.
His crime TV series NASHAA has Showrunner Christopher Hollier (La Brea, Roswell, New Mexico) and Director Tim Andrew (NCIS: Hawai'i, Roswell, New Mexico) attached and is currently in development.
After attaining his Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering from The University of Birmingham, Jas interned at a documentary production company and worked on commissions for Sampad Arts. He set up Dilated Films, making Hip Hop and Bhangra music videos that screened in the UK and Canada.
But Jas’s first love has always been writing. He has a collection of short stories that he continually adds to – with a keen interest in writing tales with dark twists. He specializes in Drama and Comedy screenplays, such as the above-mentioned TV Crime Drama NASHAA (PAGE Awards Bronze Prize Winner), and the eerie TV Comedy DARK MOORS. In all of Jas’s stories, South Asian characters are front and center; ever-passionate in having his community represented up on our screens.
Jas spent many years working as a Data Analytics consultant, and is a Financial Crime Analytics expert, using his tech skills to prevent criminals from laundering money from big banks.
As a kid growing up in the economically deprived, but diversely rich, inner-city area of Balsall Heath, Jas constantly wrote stories to escape the outside world. As he got older and was able to get his hands on a camcorder, he started making short films with friends in his neighborhood – even fashioning his own DIY steady-cam from an unused dumbbell and furniture legs! This self-made device was used in his award-winning debut short film, “The 7th”, which he wrote, directed, and edited.
He resides in Solihull in the West Midlands where he lives with his wife, two sons, and two pet dogs. He loves traveling the world with his family, as well as exploring the English countryside on long, peaceful walks. He is a Birmingham City football fan and a Warwickshire County Cricket Club supporter.
